“Pitching Sweat” – diary of a pitchfest
Want to know what it’s like pitching your screenplay ideas to Hollywood executives at a large screenwriters conference (aka pitchfest)? Here are the highlights and lowdowns of one such pitch session. The events are real. The names have been changed to protect my butt in case I ever get to work with any of these people. Continue reading

DSLRs Compared
In this video I compare three popular DSLRs sensor sizes, form factor and features. Canon 5D is full-frame CMOS sensor, Sony alpha 350 is mid-size APS-C sensor and the Panasonic GH2 has a micro 4/3 sensor.
Macro-anamorphic Lens with GH2
MacroAnamorphic test shots from Peter Bohush on Vimeo.
Very quick, hand held test shots to see how close I could get focus on an anamorphic lens.
Shot on Panasonic GH2, 24fps, with a Canon 50mm f/1.4 EF taking lens connected to a Sankor 16C anamorphic lens. In front of the lens I added first a +1 diopter, 52mm threaded to fit onto the 16C, and then a funky Star-D close up adapter I picked up for about $2 at a swap meet.
I was able to focus down to 2 inches from the front of the lens to the subject (add 8 inches to the camera focal plane.) This was all hand held so some shots are shaky and go in and out of focus, as the depth of field was less than 1 inch. Total focus range is about 3 feet – anything beyond that can’t be focused upon when using these macro filters.
Halo Rig HD reviewed: great camera stabilizer

Halo Rig Camera Stabilizer
Steer your way to steadier shots
by Peter Bohush
The Halo Rig HD camera stabilizer, from HaloRig.com, is a low-cost circular rig for handheld shooting that improves the stability and fluidness of shots. Think of it as a poor-man’s Steadicam. Or even the poor-man’s Varizoom.
The Halo Rig HD is a 3/4 round tube with a flat bottom. Sort of like a steering wheel with the bottom cut off. A lightweight camera or camcorder attaches to the flat crossbar, allowing the operator to “steer” the camera. Continue reading
Sony introduces FS100 stunning mid-priced camcorder
Well this new camera came out of nowhere, but watch out! Less than 2 months after introducing their $13k F3, Sony is bringing out the FS100 for half the price to compete head to head with the Panasonic AF100. And it looks like the FS100 is the winner!

Panasonic AF100 review – good but not freakin’ awesome
Maybe we’re hoping for too much these days. Does every new camera need to be AWESOME? Well, if you’re plunking down $10k or more for a kit, I think it should at least be pretty freaking nearly-awesome, don’t you?
I checked out the new Panasonic AG-AF100 at a workshop in LA today. Overall response from the people was that it’s very nice, but not great. Not exciting. Not a “game changer.” Good for commercials, maybe TV and possibly an indie feature without dreams of big screen exhibition. SamysDV has a nice package with 5 Zeiss primes for under $10k. But will it meet your needs? Depends on what those needs are. Continue reading
